Every Wednesday in February I’m going to send you several great scholarships you can apply for! This is the time of year when scholarship deadlines are coming to a close and making their last awards for enrollment in the fall.

Reminder: even when you earn a lot of college credit in high school, your teen is still a “first-time freshman” when they apply for college admissions or financial aid.

  1. Life Lessons Essay Contest
    Sponsor: Life Happens
    Amount: Varies
    Closing Date: March 1, 2020
    Description: Scholarship is open to legal residents of the United States, District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico who are between the ages of 17 and 24 years of age and have experienced the death of a parent or legal guardian. Applicant must be currently enrolled in, or have been accepted to, a college, university, or trade school.

2. Nichols for Notes Music Scholarship
Sponsor: Federation of Women’s Clubs of Massachusetts
Amount: $500
Closing Date: March 1, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to seniors in a Massachusetts high school or students who are homeschooled in Massachusetts. Applicant must plan to major in Piano, Instrument, Music Education, Music Therapy, or Voice.

3. Princeton Prize in Race Relations
Sponsor: Alumni Association of Princeton
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: March 1, 2021
Description: Award is for students currently enrolled in ninth through twelfth grades in a participating region (Alabama, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Connecticut, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Memphis, Miami, Nashville, New Jersey, NYC, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Rochester, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St Louis, or Washington, DC) who have been actively involved in a volunteer activity that has had a significant, positive impact on race relations in their school or community.

4. Superpower Scholarships

Amount: $2,500
Closing Date: March 31, 2021
Description: Scholarship is open to students 13 years of age or older who are legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia and who are currently enrolled (or will enroll no later than the fall of 2027) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. In a short written response, student must explain which superhero or villain they would want to changes places with for a day and why.

5. Paradigm Challenge
Sponsor: Project Paradigm
Amount: Up to $100,000
Closing Date: May 1, 2021
Description: Challenge is open to students aged 4 to 18 years of age (as of May 1, 2021) worldwide. Applicants may work in a team or alone to use kindness, creativity, and collaboration to help solve real-life problems.

6. Wischer Scholarship
Sponsor: Frost Bank Trustee
Amount: Up to $11,000
Closing Date: February 10, 2021
Description: Scholarship is open to students who will be an undergraduate or graduate students in Fall 2021 who is a legal resident. Applicant must be of good character and preference will be given to “applicants who are Christians and attend church regularly.”

7. Association of Women in Mathematics Essay Contest
Sponsor: Association for Women in Mathematics
Amount: Varies
Closing Date: February 1, 2021
Description: Contest is open to students in grades 6 through 12 and undergraduate students. Student must submit an essay based on an interview with a women currently working in a mathematical career.

8. Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship
Sponsor: Jackie Robinson Foundation
Amount: Up to $30,000 over four years
Closing Date: February 1, 2021
Description: Scholarship is open to graduating, minority high school seniors who plan on attending an accredited and approved four-year institution within the United States. Applicant must show leadership potential, dedication to community service, and evidence of financial need.

9. Junior Duck Stamp Contest
Sponsor: United States Fish & Wildlife Service
Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: February 15, 2021
Description: Contest is open to students in grades K-12 who attend public, private, or home schools in the United States and the U.S. territories. Contestant must draw, paint, or sketch a picture of an eligible North American waterfowl species. Deadline only for Massachusetts. California and Maryland deadlines has already passed, but all other states have later deadlines – see website for details.

10. Readability Scholarship
Sponsor: Readability
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: June 15, 2021
Description: Scholarship is open to student currently enrolled at an accredited college or university with at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicant must submit an original children’s story (fiction, nonfiction, or poetry).
