Arizona State University is adding Universal Learner courses to enable students to earn their Applied Business Data Analytics (ABDA) certificate! The certificate is comprised of 6 courses, with 18 total college credits.
Program Requirements
CIS 105: Computer Applications and Information Technology (CS) (3 cr)
CIS 308: Advanced Excel in Business (3 cr)
CIS 309: Business Process Management (3 cr)
CIS 310: Business Data Visualization (3 cr) (link is for the regular catalog, since this course wasn’t listed on the UL portal at the time this post was written)
CIS 405: Business Intelligence (3 cr) (link is for the regular catalog, since this course wasn’t listed on the UL portal at the time this post was written)
Any Statistics Course or CIS 394: Location Analytics for Business (3)

Overview
The certificate in applied business data analytics is for students who are interested in practical uses for computer-based tool suites that are capable of managing vast amounts of data. Students learn sophisticated but easy-to-use means of managing and analyzing such data. They leverage the tools for making good decisions about projects, process designs and fundamental tasks.
Exposure to predictive analytics and modeling, big data techniques, and visualization provides significant insight into the advanced uses of the computer-based tools. Critical thinking is an important skill and mindset that is required for establishing and evaluating evidence-based benchmarks for making good decisions leading to high-quality outcomes.
Prerequisites
To be successful in this course, we recommend English language fluency and computer literacy.
Cost
As with all ASU Universal Learner courses, the cost is just $25 to sign up for each course and students optionally pay $400 at the end of each course to have it put on an ASU transcript, only if you like the grade. If you don’t pay there is no record of the course, no record of failure or penalty for not completing the course.
What is the UL program?
ASU’s Universal Learner program, formerly known as the Earned Admissions program, is a unicorn in the college world. Students of any age in any part of the world can sign up for regionally accredited (the gold standard) college courses with no hassles, no need to send your transcripts, no red tape, no placement tests, and no risk to a student’s GPA. If the student doesn’t get the grade they want, simply do not pay the $400 at the end of the course and there is no record of the course.
