Arizona State University has added another NEW course to their Universal Learner (UL) program: CIS 394 Location Analytics for Business. This new 3 credit course is available as a self-paced course in the upper level division (junior/senior), which are difficult to find at this price point.
Introduction and conceptual overview of location intelligence via visualization and analyses of geo-spatial data to enhance business insights and decision making.
Learn how location analytics can offer better insights and decision-making support for business by analyzing geo-referenced data with GIS application software such as ArcGIS Online. Explore and geo-enrich the location component of business data to perform market analysis, visualize demographic, customer, and competition data and share analysis insights using engaging maps. Learn how spatial analysis helps organizations decrease costs, increase revenue, and reduce risks.
What you’ll learn
- Understand the basic principles of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) including coordinate systems, projections, maps
- Use industry standard ESRI’s GIS software tools such as ArcGIS Online to question, analyze, interpret, and visualize spatial data
- Apply geospatial analysis to various business functions, including market planning, site analysis and market research
- Examine case studies and present how location information can be leveraged in specific industry to solve underlying business problems.
To be successful in this course, we recommend English language fluency and computer literacy. Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS) concepts will be helpful but is not required.
CIS 105, Computer Applications and Information Technology, is strongly suggested as a prerequisite for success in this course.
Please note that prerequisites are suggested, but not required, with Universal Learner program courses.
Degrees and Certificates
This course is part of the online Bachelor’s of Science in Business Data Analytics and the Applied Business Data Analytics Certificate.
As with all ASU Universal Learner courses, the cost is just $25 to sign up and you pay $400 at the end, only if you like the grade. If you don’t pay there is no record of the course, no record of failure, or record of not completing the course.
What is the UL program?
ASU’s Universal Learner program, formerly known as the Earned Admissions program, is a unicorn in the college world. Students of any age in any part of the world can sign up for regionally accredited (the gold standard) college courses with no hassles, no need to send your transcripts, no red tape, no placement tests, and no risk to a student’s GPA. If the student doesn’t get the grade they want, simply do not pay the $400 at the end of the course and there is no record of the course. Retake the courses as many times as is needed for just a minimal $25 sign-up fee. Find out the full scope of the program.
How to Sign Up

We have been trying since September, to register our boys for ASU and have been unable to. The number we were given to reach out to, no one is there and no return calls. I also tried to join the FB group and have not been able to. Maybe I am already a member. I don’t know. I would love for our 3 children to take classes at ASU. Our 11th grader wants to build his own computer and I encouraged him to do so as long as he is able to get credits for it. I would love some assistance and guidance. Thank you in advance.
Oh Sharon I hate hearing about these frustrations, let me see if I can help you get right-side up. I have 3 steps for you below. Please email me directly if these suggestions do not help. Cookderosa@gmail.com
(1) ASU Portal for HS4CC families: https://ea.asu.edu/partners/hs4cc
*go into that portal and click “register now” if it allows it, then you can proceed- if not, it will take you to the initial steps will get their ASURITE number set up. Since you have 3 students, it is possible that the computer thinks all 3 are the same person- that I don’t know- but please try this step and let me know what happens.
(2) Contact for ASU: https://ea.asu.edu/about/contact-us (note that there are specific business hours)
(3) HS4CC ASU Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ASU4Homeschool
I looked, and we have 5 people with the first name Sharon in that FB group. When you click the link, if you have permission to post, then you are already joined. If you do not, it will say “join now” which you can then do.
