Occasionally, parents need to talk to the Universal Learner Support team about their student’s account. If you’re talking to the team with your student present, no problem; but if your student isn’t present, you’re going to hit a wall. In this post, we tell you how to assure that you’ll have access!
(These instructions are specific to FERPA access at Arizona State University for our Universal Learner parents, however, every college your teen uses for dual enrollment has a FERPA process- you might have to dig, but they have one!)
Once you receive your ASURITE ID and can login, you’ll need to fill out the Guest Access Permissions (FERPA agreement) to allow parents or guardians to speak with ASU staff about the student’s account. Please login to myASU (far top right corner) and add the Parent/Guardian to the account by clicking on the “Add a Guest” and fill out the information. This is probably the ONLY time you’ll log into the myASU portal. The rest of the time you’ll use the Login link on the EA page (black bar). Obviously, adult students would skip this step.

Can I, as a parent, talk to the instructors on behalf of my student?
While it technically grants that kind of access, it’s universally frowned upon by colleges and instructors. We suggest avoiding this, if at all possible. Consider it the nuclear button! The better solution is to look at this as an opportunity to teach your student how to interact with co-workers and superiors in a professional environment. Guide them on proper etiquette in communication, proof read their message, discuss anything that might be misconstrued or considered inappropriate and suggest changes. These are valuable lessons to be learned in the safety of your homeschool environment.
What is the UL program?
ASU’s Universal Learner program, formerly known as the Earned Admissions program, is a unicorn in the college world. Students of any age in any part of the world can sign up for regionally accredited (the gold standard) college courses with no hassles, no need to send your transcripts, no red tape, no placement tests, and no risk to a student’s GPA. If the student doesn’t get the grade they want, simply do not pay the $400 at the end of the course and there is no record of the course. Retake the courses as many times as is needed for just a minimal $25 sign-up fee. Find out the full scope of the program.

We do not make any money from this program in any way. The HS4CC portal was created to facilitate special offerings from ASU.
