HS4CC Parent from Texas Shares:

This is excellent advice from HS4CC parent Dayna in Texas for those students using dual enrollment. She writes “My son needed VERY specific letters of recommendation for his applications to the United States Military Academies. Specifically, he needed them from humanities teachers, math and English teachers, and guidance counselors…”

…He recently graduated college (he’s a high school senior), but was able to go back and request these letters from his college instructors. Thank heavens. They wrote him INCREDIBLE letters.
I cannot stress enough telling your son/daughter the importance of introducing themselves to their instructor.

  • A handshake on the first day.
  • Following up after class.
  • Emails.
  • Just make yourself known.

It is so easy to get swallowed up in big college classes, especially when you’re so young, but make yourself more than a number!!! I know our homeschooled kids can be shy or introverted, but this is important. Especially if you use all college classes in lieu of high school, like I did.”

We completely agree Dayna, excellent advice!
